Disposal of batteries, lamps and electronics

Responsible Battery Disposal

As a distributor of batteries and battery-powered devices, LEDTEC complies with the German Battery Act (BattG). Batteries contain substances that can harm the environment and must be handled with care. For this reason, they do not belong in household waste and must be returned via appropriate channels.

  • Used batteries and rechargeable batteries must be returned to local collection points or retailers
  • Batteries containing pollutants are labeled with a crossed-out bin symbol and the chemical markers: Cd (cadmium), Hg (mercury), or Pb (lead)
  • Consumers are legally obligated to dispose of batteries through official recycling or take-back systems

Disposing of Old Electrical Devices and Lamps

Old electronic equipment and lighting products must be treated as regulated waste and recycled through appropriate systems. As per the German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act II (ElektroG), these items may not be discarded as regular waste.

  • Waste electrical equipment, including LED and gas discharge lamps, must be separated from general household waste
  • Owners are responsible for ensuring old equipment is recycled or properly reported to the stiftung ear
  • Components such as copper and rare earth metals in electronics can be recovered, reducing environmental impact

Sustainable Recycling with Lightcycle

To simplify the recycling of lighting products, LEDTEC partners with Lightcycle—a Germany-wide return system for lamps and lighting. Lightcycle makes compliance easy and encourages responsible disposal practices through a broad network of return locations.

  • Over 400 collection points available throughout Germany
  • Free return of old LED and gas discharge lamps, no pre-registration required
  • More than 90% of old lamp components can be efficiently recycled
  • Bulk collection service available for one ton or more of lighting waste

Environmental Benefits of Recycling

Recycling electronic and lighting waste preserves valuable raw materials and minimizes the release of harmful substances into the environment. By participating in organized disposal systems, LEDTEC contributes to a circular economy.

  • Resource conservation through the recovery of metals like copper and aluminum
  • Reduction of landfill waste and pollution from hazardous substances
  • Support for sustainable, closed-loop product lifecycles

Packaging Waste Management (VerpackG Compliance)

In compliance with the German Packaging Act (VerpackG), LEDTEC participates in Interzero’s system service program. This ensures that packaging materials from our products are properly recycled and do not burden the environment.

  • LEDTEC packaging is processed through a certified waste management system
  • Participation in Interzero helps meet national recycling targets
  • Reinforces our commitment to reducing the environmental footprint of our products

As a participant in the Interzero dual system, LEDTEC meets all legal requirements for environmentally responsible packaging recycling in Germany. This label stands for a responsible approach to resources – an added value for our customers.
